The General Fleet
General fleet captain:

The General Fleet allows racing for boats that don't have adopted fleets at Blithfield. Any dinghy or catamaran can sail on the reservoir providing that the handicap is above PN 864, which only excludes some of the extremely fast dinghies and skiffs that are simply too big for the water. Our handicap racing is both friendly and competitive across a wide range of boats, the results are corrected to the Portsmouth Yardstick system are published promptly after each race. Some new boats are classified in the General Fleet until they are sufficient in number to warrant a separate fleet status, others are here because they simply not as common as the other classes.

The racing in Laser, Phantom, Merlin, RS and Osprey fleets are an important part of our sailing, if you are joining us, we would encourage you to see if any of these fleets suit your tastes. However, Blithfield has superb facilities both on and off the water and is very pleased to welcome you in most other boats as well! If you are new to sailing or thinking of buying a boat, please contact me and I would be pleased to give any advice on the boats most suited. Our club boats are available to members and provide a good way of trial sailing before deciding which boat to purchase.
