About Blithfield Reservoir

Blithfield is a large reservoir owned by the South Staffs Water PLC, situated approximately 4 miles North of Rugeley in Staffordshire. The reservoir is divided roughly in half by a causeway. One side is a nature reserve and only fishing is allowed; the other side has both fishing and sailing. Sailing is allowed on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.00am until one hour before sunset. No powerboats are allowed other than safety craft.

As with all reservoirs, the water level drops during the summer months, but as we sail at the dam end of the water, this doesn't cause a problem. We have been lucky this winter and have not lost any sailing days due to ice in recent years.

Blithfield SC has around 180 members. The clubhouse is open all day Saturday, Sunday and on Wednesday evenings during summer. In winter, it is open on Sundays and sometimes Saturdays if the weather is not too bad. The clubhouse is comfortable with changing rooms, a bar and a lounge area. Sunday is the main racing day with hot food available at lunchtime. Wednesday evening races are held during summer and there is a great barbeque afterwards.

There is a large dinghy park with plenty of room. Launching boats is no problem with a large beach area and three concrete launching ramps, one with an electric winch for larger boats. The club also has a number of boats for members use.
