Volunteering At Blithfield

As a volunteer run club, we couldn't do anything without the support of our members in running day-to-day events, maintaining the Club or organising things behind the scenes. When you join you are making a financial contribution to the club running costs, not paying for a service. All members need to contribute, in a way which is suitable for them, at a time of their choosing and making best use of their skills.

Examples of this could include helping with maintenance, cutting the grass, and the thousand things that need doing in an active club. Helping with training events is appreciated and very rewarding; many enjoy this so much that they go on to become instructors.

The Club earns a lot of money by hosting events, and that money helps keep our membership fees down. Events need volunteers to help with organisation, registration, in the galley, behind the bar, as well as in the rescue boats and on the shore. Many find that having a role on a committee, providing rescue cover for fellow members and helping to run our dinghy races increases the satisfaction you have in being part of our happy community. Volunteering is very important to ensure that we keep our costs as low as possible and also creates a great team spirit and atmosphere.
We always need volunteers for the regular dinghy races, particularly race officer and safety cover. Those that take part in racing will typically be expected to do one duty per race series that they enter, allocation of which is managed by the Rear Commodore via the dutyman system.
Please remember the club employs no staff (we are all volunteers) and that every act of courtesy is important. Please wash up after you, if you damage something try to affect a repair, enlisting advice or help if required. Help keep the club in the condition that you would expect to find it in and encourage those that you are with to do the same.
If you don’t do it, then a volunteer will have to do it… and there are other activities that are a lot more useful and fun for our volunteers!
